Diode Ventures planned a $1.5 billion data center campus on about 500 acres in Peculiar, south of Kansas City. After a large resident campaign, the Board of Aldermen voted in 2024 to remove data centers from the city's zoning code, which blocked the project.

After strong resident pushback, the Board of Aldermen removed data centers from the city's light industrial zoning rules. Data centers are no longer allowed in Peculiar, which stopped the Diode Ventures campus on Harper Road.
