Google data center (Project Cannoli), Van Buren Township
Also called: Project Cannoli
Google plans a 1-gigawatt data center on 282 acres in Van Buren Township near Detroit Metro Airport. DTE would serve it with new solar and batteries. Google must pay for at least 80% of its contracted power. Planet Detroit reported it could use 2 to 3.6 million gallons of water a day.
Where things stand: Planning commission gave early site plan approval in Feb. 2026 and state regulators approved the power contracts on Oct. 2, 2026. Final site plan vote expected Oct. 14.
๐ Latest update (Oct 2, 2026): State utility regulators (MPSC) voted 3-0 to approve DTE's 20-year power contracts with Google, with conditions.
