The owner of the 186-acre Plum Farms land asked Hoffman Estates to rezone it in a way that could allow a data center. After strong public pushback, the request was withdrawn in June 2026.

The village plan commission voted 4-2 against recommending a rezoning of the 186-acre Plum Farms land to manufacturing, which would have allowed a Karis Critical data center. The developer then withdrew the request before the village board voted.
