An Australian investment firm proposed a 247,000-square-foot, 50-megawatt data center on 15.8 acres in Monterey Park's Saturn Business Park. After strong public pushback, the city paused data centers and the company withdrew in March 2026. Voters then banned data centers in the city.

Council paused all data center applications for 45 days in January 2026. On March 4, 2026 it extended the pause to January 21, 2027, and put a permanent ban on the June ballot.
