Prime Data Centers SMF02 (McClellan Park, second building)

Prime Data Centers is building a second data center at its campus in McClellan Business Park, north of Sacramento. The new building has about 18 megawatts of computer power and is next to Prime's first building, which opened in 2020. The county approved it in February 2026 and work started in May 2026.
Where things stand: County approved the permits in Feb 2026; construction started in May 2026.

What happened so far
- Feb 5, 2026Sacramento County approved a special permit and design review for a new two-story data center, an office building and a generator building (PLNP2024-00238).
- Feb 25, 2026The county filed its environmental decision with the state. It said the project has significant impacts and adopted a statement of overriding considerations.
- May 7, 2026Prime announced it broke ground on SMF02, an 18 MW, 150,000 sq ft building.
