⚖️ Court case · Washoe County
NV Energy sued data center developer Tract to stop a private arbitration about how much power the utility must supply, and when, to Tract's Peru Shelf and South Valley projects at the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center. NV Energy says these questions belong at the state utility commission so that other customers do not pay the costs. Tract says the contracts require arbitration.
⏸️ Pause on new data centers
Reno City Council voted 6-1 to keep its pause on new data center permits until August 31, 2027, or until new data center rules are in the city code, whichever comes first. Data centers already running or being built are not affected. In a separate unanimous vote, the council told staff to start writing data center rules (water, noise, energy, community benefits and more).
⏸️ Pause on new data centers
Reno City Council voted 6-1 at a special meeting to start a 30-day pause on new data center permits (conditional use permits). The five data centers already in the city were not affected. On June 1 the council replaced this short pause with a longer one.
