⚖️ Court case · Nye County
Two companies that own about 911 acres along Carpenter Canyon Road and State Route 160 for the Manse Technology Center (CDDC, LLC and 9 of a Kind, LLC) asked a court to review Nye County's Pahrump data center ban. They say it violates their property rights and that the county's zoning on their land is too vague.
🚫 Ban · Nye County
Nye County commissioners voted to ban building and running data centers in the Pahrump area and groundwater Basin 162, one of Nevada's most over-used water basins. The ban was added to the county land-use code (Ordinance 631). Nevada news outlets called it the first outright data center ban in the state. A proposal to let voters decide in a special election died without a motion.
📜 Data center rules · Nye County
Nye County is working on Bill No. 2026-14, a set of rules for data centers in the rest of the county (outside the Pahrump ban area): where they may go, special use permits and building standards. Commissioners voted 4-1 to set a public hearing, but a special meeting set for early September was canceled. The county says the bill is still under review and no new hearing date is set.
⏸️ Pause on new data centers · Nye County
Nye County commissioners unanimously paused all new applications for commercial data centers across the county. The pause has no end date: it lasts until the county adopts data center rules. Concern started after a developer asked Valley Electric Association about power for a data center in Pahrump.
