Lyon County commissioners voted 3-1 (one commissioner stepped aside) to approve the planned unit development rezoning for the Monarch Data Center and its gas power plant near Yerington. Copia Power has one year to file the final plan and still needs state permits. The Walker River Paiute and Yerington Paiute tribes said they would fight the decision in court.

Lyon County commissioners reviewed a first draft data center ordinance at a workshop and voted 5-0 to send it back to staff. Several said the 150-foot buffer from homes was far too small. The draft would ban water-using cooling (except treated wastewater), require a permit in industrial zones, and set noise limits. It would not apply to Monarch.
