Bridgewater passed a large zoning ordinance with rules for new data centers on commercial land along Route 22. It followed a proposal for a 400,000 sq ft AI data center at the former Greymark office site. One advocacy list counts Bridgewater as a ban; news reports describe rules, not a full ban.

E. Kahn Development sued Montgomery Township to overturn its data center ban. It says the ban was based on 'public hysteria' rather than sound planning and seeks more than $300 million. The company owns the 257-acre former Johnson & Johnson campus in Skillman.

Bernards Township unanimously adopted Ordinance 2599, banning data centers in all zones and removing 'data processing centers' from the office zones. It covers colocation, cloud, server farms and crypto mining. Hospitals, public safety sites and small server rooms are exempt.
