North Brunswick banned data centers. Residents pushed for it after talk of redeveloping the 87-acre property at 100 Fidelity Plaza.

🚫 Ban · East Brunswick

East Brunswick's council unanimously adopted Ordinance 26-21. It bans data centers in all commercial, business and industrial districts. It passed the same night as bans in North Brunswick and Stafford.

⏸️ Pause on new data centers · Sayreville

Sayreville passed Ordinance 15-26, an 18-month pause on building data centers anywhere in the borough. It was introduced in June 2026. We did not find the exact adoption date, so the end date is not known.

🗺️ Zoning change · New Brunswick

New Brunswick's council voted 5-0 to change the Jersey Avenue redevelopment plan. It took out a planned 27,000 sq ft data center and requires a public park instead.

🚫 Ban · Old Bridge

After a heated meeting on June 9, 2026, Old Bridge's council dropped a proposed three-year pause and asked for an ordinance to ban data centers in all zones. Two older redevelopment plans had allowed data centers in some areas. Pinelands Alliance lists Old Bridge among towns with a ban.
