🚫 Ban · Unincorporated Cass County
Commissioners said the county will not allow very large 'hyperscale' data centers (at least 100,000 square feet and 25 megawatts or more). Draft rules split data centers into three sizes and ban the largest. The full rules were still being finished.
⏸️ Pause on new data centers · Unincorporated Cass County
Commissioners voted 5-0 for a 12-month pause on data center permits after a packed hearing. Residents worried about water, farmland and a reported Google and Tenaska plan in southeast Nebraska. The pause does not cover land zoned by villages like Nehawka.
🚫 Ban · Nehawka
The village board banned data centers, crypto mining and their power plants in the village and its zoning area just outside town. Residents raised noise and water worries. The county pause did not cover this area.
