βΈοΈ Pause on new data centers
Supervisors voted 3-0 to extend and widen the county's pause on high-density computing and data processing sites, including data centers, in the countryside until August 4, 2027. The first pause began in September 2024, after a request to put a data mining site near homes. It can end sooner if rules are adopted.
π Data center rules
Jackson County is drafting a 'high-density computing facilities' ordinance for the countryside. The draft has setbacks of 500 feet from property lines and 1,000 feet from occupied buildings; residents asked for more. It also covers noise and vibration testing paid by the owner, water use, power needs, roads and cleanup. No site is proposed.
