Local votes and rules
🗺️ Zoning change · Bristol
The City Council voted unanimously to ask the Zoning Commission to lower the 250,000 square foot size cap for data centers. It also asked for special permits and public hearings for small 'micro cloud' centers, and for minimum distances between data centers. The Zoning Commission has not acted yet in the sources we found.
✅ Approved · Bristol
The wetlands commission approved the Riverside Avenue data center plan next to the Pequabuck River, with conditions. The building still needs site plan and building approvals.
🗺️ Zoning change · Bristol
The Zoning Commission added 'data center' as a use in the city zoning rules. This opened a path for data centers in the BHC, Industrial and Industrial Park zones. It is the rule the Riverside Avenue project uses.
🤝 Agreement with the company · Beacon Falls
Residents at a town meeting voted unanimously to let selectmen sign a host fee deal for a 32 MW data center on Lopus Road. It promised the town $6 million over three years, then over $2.5 million a year. The project never went forward. In 2026 residents asked selectmen for a moratorium; no vote was reported.
