Council approved a permanent ban on large data centers, such as AI centers. Small server rooms for storage, security, power and phone service are still allowed.
⏸️ Pause on new data centers · Palm Springs
Council paused data center applications for 45 days on August 26. On September 30 it voted unanimously to extend the pause to two years in total.

Council voted unanimously to have staff write a citywide data center ban. It must go to the Planning Commission and then back to council. About 30 speakers backed a ban.

Council ended its power-utility deal with Stronghold and paused new data centers for 45 days in June 2026. On July 8 it extended the pause to June 4, 2027.

Council paused new data center applications for 45 days in June 2026. On July 15 it extended the pause to October 16, 2026, and the Planning Commission asked for a full ban.
