The city board put a review of its data center rules on its Aug. 11 study session, including whether the board must approve data centers that use Fort Smith water outside the city. Since 2023 city zoning needs conditional use approval for data centers in light industrial zones and allows them by right in I-2 and I-3 zones. No data center is known to be planned there.
